The iPad : What's it good for?

To tell you the truth, I was very disapointed with the iPad. Its just a big iPod touch. Who needs it? That's when I got thinking - I may not need it, but lot of people will.

The iPad actually replaces computers for most people.
Lets make a list of what we do with our computers/laptops
  1. Surf the web
  2. Social networking
  3. Email
  4. Watch Movies
  5. Listen to music
  6. Play Games
  7. Chat
  8. Voice/Video Calls
  9. Write Blogs :)
  10. Work
Except for "work", you can do all these on the iPad - and it feels so much better than a laptop. Its feels like a magazine.

Of course, the work part of computers - like complex spreadsheets or presentations, engineering applications, photoshop, mixing sound, etc - is not replaced by the iPad. You still need a computer for that.

For most people outside office, an iPad will replace the laptop. It'll take some time... but it will happen.

Note - the iPad can't do video calls yet - but it'll be there soon.

My Indian Team : T20 World cup

With about half the IPL over, I though it would be nice to look ahead to the T20 world cup.
Here's what I would choose.

1 V Shewag
2 G Gaumbhir
3 S Tendulkar
4 Y Singh
5 S Raina
6 Y Pathan
7 MS Dhoni
8 H Singh
9 P Kumar
10 RP Singh
11 I Sharma

12 R Sharma

Bowling is a bit weak. Ishant hasn't been performing upto his potential. I went for 3 medium pacers considering we have Yuvraj/Pathan/Raina/Shewag for the fifth bowler.

The openers are not doing well either ( by their standards ). Lets see what happens.

Global Warming?

When you see a headline like :
Hottest summer for Kolkata in last 59 years

You immediately think of global warming right? Well It would mean that 59 years ago, we had higher temperature. So we have been cooling for 60 years? hmm...

Mr Amazing - Shrane Warne

I am a big fan of IPL Cricket.

Lets get the uncomfortable things out of the way - I support Kolkata Knight Riders for no reason other than the fact that I am Bengali. They have no chance of winning the tournament. They are weak on paper and weak on the field. I predict they will win 2-3 games and all of them will be because one player - Gayle, McCullum, Sourav or Mendis performing brilliantly. They will not play as a team.

KKR almost pulled it off against the holders Rajasthan Royals - who are the the exact opposite. The Royals play as a team. Anyone can be a star - everyone contributes - led by the amazing Shrane Warne.

I couldn't believe he gave the last over and the super over to Kamran Khan. And he delivered. Just before the over he had both his hands on Kamran's cheeks - egging him on, encouraging him. I remember thinking - boy that doesn't work. Well, I was wrong. He got Ganguly out and pushed it to a super over. Yusuf took care of that in 4 balls -  6 2 6 4

I give most of the credit to the amazing inspirational Warne.

Who created God?

What is my views on Religion? I'm meta-agnostic - that is I'm agnostic on whether I am agnostic or not :)

Seriously speaking, I'm agnostic, tending to atheist - and my reason is this :

I can't pretend to know how this world came about. I have no clue. The main argument is whether everything came about spontaneously , or if someone/something created it. I agree, the world seems too complex to have just happened. Something must have created it? Right?

But that ignores the basic problem. Who created the Creator? The Creator must be more complex that his creations, right? So, following the same logic, the Creator must have been created by something even more complex. This leads to an infinite loop - ultimately something must have come out of nothing.

So, by logic, either we or the creator came accidentally. So the problem "how can something so complex be created out of nothing" is not solved by having God. So, I am a atheist in general, but I do acknowledge, that some superhuman/God/force could have created Earth. However, that entity had to be created by chance, which is the same thing.

Horoscopes and Politics

I really don't like to discuss politics - but I could not resist this.
Times of india reports that Lalu has found out the reason why LK Advani can never become prime minister. It seems his horoscope ( Kundli) does not allow it ("Rajyog") !!!

I wonder how many people will buy this and vote for Lalu? Considering his audience, I think this is very smart on his part. Sad, but smart.
