With about half the IPL over, I though it would be nice to look ahead to the T20 world cup.
Here's what I would choose.
1 V Shewag
2 G Gaumbhir
3 S Tendulkar
4 Y Singh
5 S Raina
6 Y Pathan
7 MS Dhoni
8 H Singh
9 P Kumar
10 RP Singh
11 I Sharma
12 R Sharma
Bowling is a bit weak. Ishant hasn't been performing upto his potential. I went for 3 medium pacers considering we have Yuvraj/Pathan/Raina/Shewag for the fifth bowler.
The openers are not doing well either ( by their standards ). Lets see what happens.

Global Warming?
When you see a headline like :
Hottest summer for Kolkata in last 59 years
You immediately think of global warming right? Well It would mean that 59 years ago, we had higher temperature. So we have been cooling for 60 years? hmm...

Mr Amazing - Shrane Warne
I am a big fan of IPL Cricket.
Lets get the uncomfortable things out of the way - I support Kolkata Knight Riders for no reason other than the fact that I am Bengali. They have no chance of winning the tournament. They are weak on paper and weak on the field. I predict they will win 2-3 games and all of them will be because one player - Gayle, McCullum, Sourav or Mendis performing brilliantly. They will not play as a team.
KKR almost pulled it off against the holders Rajasthan Royals - who are the the exact opposite. The Royals play as a team. Anyone can be a star - everyone contributes - led by the amazing Shrane Warne.
I couldn't believe he gave the last over and the super over to Kamran Khan. And he delivered. Just before the over he had both his hands on Kamran's cheeks - egging him on, encouraging him. I remember thinking - boy that doesn't work. Well, I was wrong. He got Ganguly out and pushed it to a super over. Yusuf took care of that in 4 balls - 6 2 6 4
I give most of the credit to the amazing inspirational Warne.

Flock-ing
Here's another new verb like google-ing, tweeter-ing.
Flock is a browser which has one click access to you social needs - blogging, facebook, webmail and all fun stuff.
It has drag-and-drop and some cool webclips features.
Looks very cool. Lets see how it works.

Who created God?
What is my views on Religion? I'm meta-agnostic - that is I'm agnostic on whether I am agnostic or not :)
Seriously speaking, I'm agnostic, tending to atheist - and my reason is this :
I can't pretend to know how this world came about. I have no clue. The main argument is whether everything came about spontaneously , or if someone/something created it. I agree, the world seems too complex to have just happened. Something must have created it? Right?
But that ignores the basic problem. Who created the Creator? The Creator must be more complex that his creations, right? So, following the same logic, the Creator must have been created by something even more complex. This leads to an infinite loop - ultimately something must have come out of nothing.
So, by logic, either we or the creator came accidentally. So the problem "how can something so complex be created out of nothing" is not solved by having God. So, I am a atheist in general, but I do acknowledge, that some superhuman/God/force could have created Earth. However, that entity had to be created by chance, which is the same thing.

Horoscopes and Politics
I really don't like to discuss politics - but I could not resist this.
Times of india reports that Lalu has found out the reason why LK Advani can never become prime minister. It seems his horoscope ( Kundli) does not allow it ("Rajyog") !!!
I wonder how many people will buy this and vote for Lalu? Considering his audience, I think this is very smart on his part. Sad, but smart.

Racism??
I don't understand what is racist any more. I heard someone ( white guy ) being called a racist because he said he will only date white girls. Is that racist? Back when I was dating, I only dated girls of Indian origin. Its just a preference.
Apparently, on the flip side, suppose you are white and only date black women. Are you still racist? Am I a racist or homophobic because I will only date girls and not men?
This is similar to men who only date blondes. They are Male Chauvinist Pigs. However, there are men who say they date only intelligent girls with whom they can carry-on meaningful conversations. They are said to be enlightened.
It seems to me, that you are racist if you discriminate against the "race" that is not politically correct to discriminate against. If you discriminate against a class which is not "weak" or "underprivileged" - society gives you a pass.
To end with Seinfeld : "If I like their race, how can I be racist"

Google Maps problems
I love google maps. It always works. So I was very surprised to find this :

It can't calculate directions between 470 River Side Ct, Santa Clara CA and 500 Moreland Way, Santa Clara CA.

Yahoo Maps had no problems with this.

I'm sure this used to work earlier....

Triskaidekaphobia
If you don't know what that means, its the fear of Friday the 13th!!!! Did you know we have 3 "Friday 13th"s this year. In the mood for more useless trivia? No? me neither.
When I was in grade school, I remember, Friday 13th was a pretty big deal. Something BAD had to happen. Your basketball team is bound to lose. Your grades had to turn out bad. To make it worse, I grew up in a small town in Texas, and even some parents believed all this crap.
Some of these parents got out to the real world as well. Why else would there be no 13th floor on some buildings? Some airplanes have no 13th aisle. Its bad luck to have 13 people in a party. In France, you can hire a professional 14th person for your party. They are called "quartorziens".
Just thinking about the old stuff.. must be all the rain outside.
Netflix extra DVD!!
When I checked my Netflix queue this morning I was in for a surprise... I had an extra DVD!!
I admit - first thing that came to my mind was - Netflix must have screwed up, and I have to pay for an extra DVD. But no.. They had an explanation. They had shipped me a movie which was not available at my local Netflix center, and It would take longer to ship. So they sent me a extra one while it was in the mail. Yey!!
I case you are wondering, the DVD was "Oye Lucky, Lucky Oye". Why would someone see a movie with such a strange name? Apparently its good for a Bollywood movie.
